Why did you decide to become a doctor?
I became a doctor thirty-five years ago because I wanted to make a difference by caring for and healing people who have various medical needs and conditions. My grandfather was a doctor in Europe and both of my sisters are nurses, so I guess you could say I was naturally drawn to the medical field.
Why do you think it’s important for patients to recognize caregivers who go above and beyond to care for them?
Patients who recognize caregivers are very special indeed. As physicians, we like knowing that our efforts are appreciated and recognized by those we care for and it’s gratifying to be recognized because, in the end, we caregivers all strive to provide the best possible care to our patients.
When you receive a Guardian Angel Recognition, what does that mean to you?
Receiving a Guardian Angel Recognition means so much more than just doing my job as a physician. It represents the professional and personal fulfillment and happiness I find in making a difference in my patients’ lives by providing medical care for their health and overall well-being.
Tell me about some of the people you’ve met that have recognized you as a Guardian Angel while working at Phelps Health?
It may sound unusual but many of my patients feel like friends. Without singling out a particular patient, I can say that I have many patients that I’ve been seeing for years and I can recognize their emotions and needs and help provide them with the best medical care possible. I truly care for and am passionate about my patients’ needs which include medical, emotional and overall well-being and I am honored and grateful to receive Guardian Angel Recognitions from them.
What is something most people don’t know about you?
I used to be an international ballroom dancer. I danced and competed for almost a decade before and during my first years of medical school. I’m an avid chess player and most recently I’ve been enjoying the sport of pickleball.
