Donor Profile – Jay Hartman

Jay Hartman,
Phelps Health Foundation Donor

How did you first get involved with Phelps Health Foundation?

I’m always looking for ways to be supportive of the community. During Breast Cancer Awareness Month in 2018, I was looking for a way to give back. I chose to create t-shirts and sold them all around town in support of the women in our community who have fought, and are continuing to fight, against breast cancer.

It was an incredible experience to see how quickly the community came together to support such a worthwhile cause. We were able to donate $1,500 to the Breast Center Mammography Fund that went right back into helping women in our community.

What has influenced your decision to donate to Phelps Health Foundation?

Every little bit helps. It’s the right thing to do to give back to your community. I hope people get bit by the “giving” bug and get a chance to give, in whatever capacity they’re able.

What might someone be surprised to know about you?

My roots run deep in this area – I grew up in Newburg, MO. I came back to this area after retiring from the military because I wanted to give back and make a difference in my community.

Jay Hartman and Rolla Dickey’s BBQ teamed together to donate turkeys in the fall of 2018.

As a strong philanthropist in the community, why do you dedicate your time and resources to giving?

It’s a mission of mine to do something that makes a positive impact every month, whether it’s providing turkeys to those in need on Thanksgiving or selling t-shirts for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

How would you describe your personal mission?

Strive for greatness. I believe we should all be striving for something greater. No matter what life throws your way, if you can do the right thing and surround yourself with support, you can and will do great things.

“Strive for greatness. I believe we should all be striving for something greater.”

What do you wish other people knew about Phelps Health Foundation?

I would like them to know that they can give, in any capacity, to Phelps Health Foundation! Any chance to give or help out is appreciated and helps people in our community. That makes a real, tangible difference in the lives of our friends and families.
